Gold Coast Multicultural Network
This week, we had a reflective session at the third Gold Coast Multicultural Network event of the year, where organisations and multicultural communities gather to connect and identify issues affecting the community. This time, we hosted the "Working with Survivors of Torture and Trauma" workshop, delivered by the Queensland Program of Assistance to Survivors of Torture and Trauma (QPASTT).
Participants learned valuable skills on how to effectively support and approach people with refugee backgrounds and asylum seekers who have survived torture and trauma. Through engaging activities, they explored the different barriers refugees face in accessing services and the challenges service providers meet. The session concluded with practical tools and techniques to create a safe and supportive environment.
During the workshop, participants highlighted the importance of understanding the common experiences of refugees and recognising the unique factors of each person's journey. It was a fantastic opportunity for everyone to share their experiences and learn from one another, fostering a sense of mutual support.
Well done to our Community Development team for organising such an important session.
